As a communications and development leader at the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, I was entrusted with stewarding one of the movement’s most respected legacies while also expanding the organization’s reach, visibility, and financial sustainability.
The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) played a pivotal role in defining cancer survivorship to include the full continuum of care, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. My work focused on ensuring that this legacy remained visible and influential in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Through strategic content design, SEO-informed messaging, and targeted outreach, I helped position NCCS as a top search result for “cancer survivorship,” ensuring that the organization’s voice and definition remained central to the national dialogue.
At the same time, I strengthened the organization’s fundraising and development infrastructure by aligning communications, donor engagement, and storytelling. In a small-staff environment, versatility was essential. I helped manage a $200,000 foundation grant pipeline and reporting and deliverables for a $6 million corporate funding portfolio. I wrote proposals, developed stewardship materials, and produced impact reports tailored to funder priorities, ensuring that donors could clearly see the outcomes of their investment.

Survivors are more than statistics.
My approach to fundraising combined creativity with data-informed strategy. I revitalized the organization’s individual giving program and launched a targeted lapsed donor campaign that reached more than 1,500 past supporters through personalized appeals. Through a coordinated multi-channel year-end campaign spanning email, direct mail, and digital engagement, I doubled year-end giving while strengthening long-term donor relationships.
Alongside these efforts, I oversaw a 14,000-contact email list and 8,000 active donors, managed social media content calendars, and expanded digital engagement through blogs, media outreach, and online resources. I also worked closely with legal advisors to protect the organization’s intellectual property and high-visibility language, ensuring that NCCS’s voice remained authentic and recognizable as the survivorship movement grew.
Whether building a survivorship mobile app, coordinating national media coverage, or troubleshooting the print specifications of a patient resource guide, my goal was always the same: translate mission into meaningful engagement that inspires action and sustains impact.
