As a communications and development leader at the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, I was entrusted with stewarding one of the movement’s most respected legacies while also positioning the organization to lead the conversation about the meaning of survivorship.
The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) played a pivotal role in defining cancer survivorship to include the full continuum of care, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. I built on this legacy by elevating the organization’s visibility and relevance in a rapidly shifting digital environment. Through strategic content design, SEO-informed messaging, and targeted outreach, I helped NCCS become a top search result for “cancer survivorship,” ensuring that our definition and values remained central to the national dialogue.
I also led the charge to protect the organization’s intellectual property, including high-visibility language like “cancerversary.” In a landscape where public narratives can be quickly co-opted or diluted, I worked with legal advisors to safeguard the originality of NCCS’s voice and content while amplifying it across new channels. From revamping blog content and launching a robust policy blog to managing a digital resource store and improving organizational profiles across the web, I translated mission into accessible, engaging content.

Survivors are more than statistics.
In a small-staff environment, versatility was essential. I played a lead role in development operations, managing a $200,000 foundation grant pipeline and reporting and deliverables for a $6 million corporate funding portfolio. I wrote and submitted proposals, designed stewardship materials, and created impact reports tailored to funder priorities. I also spearheaded a revitalization of our individual giving program, launching a lapsed donor campaign that reached more than 1,500 past supporters through hand-addressed, personalized appeals.
My approach was personal, data-informed, and creative. I doubled year-end giving through a multi-channel fundraising campaign, coordinated major gift logistics, and managed a 14,000-contact email list alongside 8,000 active donors. I also oversaw our social media content calendars.
Whether building a survivorship mobile app, coordinating media coverage, or troubleshooting the print specs of a patient resource guide, I brought strategy, storytelling, and empathy into every part of the work.
